If you’re a new teacher and looking for lesson plans (or an old teacher looking for new ideas or ways to include technology in the classroom) then you could do worse than checking out Movie Segments for warm-ups and follow-ups.
It does what it says on the tin!
You can use these youtube vid clips from famous movies for 5 mins lesson segments or 2 hr complete lesson plans. It’s a win-win, isn’t it?
There’s usually one lesson a week here and of course movie clips virtually always stimulate even the dullest students.
The class discussion questions from the free lesson plans are also quite interesting: definitely more so than the classic newsenglishlessons question, “Did you like reading this article?” (However, the prolific Sean Banville should not really be criticised for the incredible amount of TEFL work he has done in his myriad sites).
For example, a movie segment from The Queen then leads on to a vocab matching exercise, then a cloze and 13 good discussion questions; one of them being, Were the paparazzi important in Lady Di’s life? Or were they only harmful to her? Why?
Not bad. Give it a try.
And thanks go to Willy Cardoso for putting me on to this site.
